Waiting

Sometimes it is necessary to wait. We may have a goal in mind and even somewhat of an idea of how we are going to get there but the timing may not be quite right. For this sunrise photo over the Columbia River Gorge at the Cape Horn overlook the photo opportunity actually came to me the night before during a significant rainstorm when I was having trouble getting to sleep. I knew this location very well and I knew exactly where the sun would be rising over the scene but what I was not sure of was the timing of the clearing. The only thing to do would be to put myself in the location before sunrise and then wait. I arrived while it was still dark, set up my tripod for the composition and waited for the sun to rise. Sure enough, a break in the clouds to the East brought a very dramatic scene that I was able to capture several compositions that I really like.

Life is similar to this photo shoot. Isaiah 40:31 tells us that “those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.” Sometimes we may find ourselves in a challenging time or may have hopes and dreams that seem unfulfilled but it is in the waiting that our strength is renewed and God will give us the strength to move forward even if we don’t know the final outcome.

So… don’t be afraid to dream but plan on waiting. Trust God and He will part the clouds and reveal the sunrise in His own timing! I hope that this photo and these thoughts give you encouragement today.
