Movement, reflection, stillness, power. Water in photography is one of the most dynamic and dramatic elements that can be included in an image. Whether it is stillness of a morning mist hanging over a pond, the reflection of a sunset, or the power of the surf pounding an ocean shore, water is a boundless gift of creativity to the photographer.
Dash Point Park at Blue Hour. Something about this image of the pier pointing into the distant sunset strikes me as beautiful and surreal.
I never get tired of visiting Chambers Bay Golf Course in the Spring when the sun is coming back to the North and our days are getting longer. Something about those shadows and the distant mountains stirs the imagination.

Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, Washington. This remarkable boardwalk over the tidal flats of the Nisqually Delta near Olympia Washington extends over a mile out over the estuary. Certainly worth a visit for some photos!
Lake Tapps is situated so perfectly for a morning reflection. What a beautiful place to enjoy God's handiwork!
The blue silted waters of the Hoh River swirling around this moss laden tree are almost beyond imagination in this fairy tale like trail in the Olympic National Park.
Crystal clear glacier water coming off the slopes of nearby Mt. Olympus in the Olympic National Park provide welcome refreshment on what is a very long climb to see this elusive peak in the heart of the mountain range.
The blending of flowing water and the moss with September fallen leaves along the Hoh River Trail of Washington is simply breathtaking.
Most of my images are not black and white but a hazy smoke filled afternoon at Dash Point Park Washington lent itself to capturing this gentleman in shades of gray.

A different perspective on the Dash Point Park fishing pier. This pier at in NE Tacoma was first built for fishing and recreation in 1917. This is actually the 4th version at this location and is currently closed for another renovation and/or replacement.
Skagit River, Washington. I love the view up the river looking into the heart of the North Cascades along this beautiful waterway. You can really see the connection here between the distant snow and the life giving waters of the river.
Point Ruston, Tacoma Washington. I love the blue hour simplicity of this image taken on a pier along the waterfront. Taking the extra few minutes to hang around after the sun had set made for some nice mood lighting.
Snoqualmie Falls, Washington. One of the most iconic landmarks in the state, this waterfall on the Snoqualmie River drops 268 feet into a 65 deep pool in a perfect amphitheater of power and peace.
Gig Harbor, Washington. The evening light filtered through the Springtime clouds over this peaceful waterfront is magical to me and one of my personal favorite images in my collection.
Palouse Falls, Washington. This dramatic drop on the Palouse River just a few miles from the Snake River confluence is one of the more remote places in all of Washington but well worth the journey.
Hanakapiai Beach, Kauai. This hidden beach along the Napali Coast is only accessible by foot or boat and sits along a beautiful trail to Hanakapiai Falls, a hidden waterfall that drops 300 ft. into a tropical lagoon. Well worth the trip and the 8 mile round trip hike through the rainforest.
Redondo Beach, Washington. Evenings at Redondo are often even more magical than the mornings as the sun sets perfectly in the West at the right time of the year. I love the pink cotton candy of these clouds.
The Baltimore Inner Harbor on a calm night is a a beautiful place for a quiet walk as the city lights reflect on the tranquil waters of the harbor.
Deception Pass from the high bridge. An iconic and beautiful landmark in the Puget Sound that is worth the drive for some photos!
Deception Pass, Washington. Situated at the top of Whidbey Island, this narrow passage and the associated high bridge that gives access to the island is a delight to visit and capture in its many moods and seasons.
Redondo Beach, Washington. This waterfront looking over Poverty Bay is a wonderful place for a walk in the early morning as the mist clears with the rising sun.
Ruby Beach, Washington. One of the most iconic beaches along the wild and rugged Washington State coastline, Ruby is a photography paradise.

Tech Center Park, Vancouver Washington. Sometimes the most beautiful waterscapes can be discovered in parks with man made water features. I love the serenity of this long exposure shot.
Another image from the Vancouver Tech Center. This was shot during a light rain which contributed to nice even light and with a long exposure helped create a very nice image.
Salt River, Tempe Arizona. The river front walk on a Spring evening in Tempe Arizona is a wonderful mixture of fun and beauty with so many people enjoying walking, biking, and riding electric scooters while enjoying the beautiful river and desert sunset.
