Light
At the core, photography is the art of controlling and capturing light onto film or a digital sensor. Images that we see with our eyes are only due to the fact that natural or artificial photons of light have bounced off of the objects that we see and then are percieved by our mind once that light makes its way through our eyes. It is a miraculous process when you think about it and the fact that we have tools to freeze this light image in time is a gift. One of the most important skills in photography is learning to be sensitive to the exposure level in the camera. This is the amount of light photons that are being allowed to be captured onto the sensor during that short span in which the shutter will be opened and then closed. Too much and the photo will be overexposed and blown out. Too little and the image will be dark and the colors will not come through as compelling. Learning to use the histogram in your camera will help with seeing the spectrum of light that is being captured before snapping the shutter.
Luke 11:34-35 tells us that “your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light.” When we spend time in the light and not darkness and also spend time with others who can help us make sure we are capturing the light of Christ the image that our life portrays to those around us will reflect a clear image of Him and bring light to our world.
