Reflection
“As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects man.” (Prov. 27:19) The use of reflections in photography is one of the most powerful techniques to bring sense of symmetry to the image. Light, color, and shapes cast themselves over the reflecting medium to come back to the eyes of the viewer in a peaceful calm way that can take the image up to a higher level of beauty than was possible without the reflection. Some reflections on the calmest of surfaces may be so realistic to the original image casting the reflection that turning the photo over is difficult to tell the original from the reflection. Today’s image of the Baltimore Inner Harbor at night is made even more powerful due to the dark night and water that calls full attention to the lights being cast and reflected back.
“But we all with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18)
Considering the thought that the reflecting surfaces that are perfectly smooth such as a mirror or calm such as water with no wind disturbing the surface reflect the image most perfectly leads me to the thought that the more we quiet our lives the more clearly we can reflect Christ. If the Spirit of Christ is in our heart that is what will be reflected (Prov. 27:19) and if we remove what hides the light of Christ and then reflect Him as a mirror, we will be transformed into His image so closely that it will be difficult to distinguish what is being seen in us from the Lord. (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Take time today to think about how you can find ways to quiet the surface of your life to more perfectly reflect Christ to the world around you. As always, it is my hope and prayer that this writing today has brought a blessing to your life.
