Direction

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go;
I will counsel you with My eye upon you.” (Psalm 32:8, NASB)

Today’s photo is one of my favorites from a backpack trip years ago in the Eagle Cap Wilderness as it seems to capture a self explanatory story in so many ways. The image may not be of a grand landscape or anything but this shot of my backpacking partner looking into the distance just behind the multi-directional trail sign illustrates so much without need of further explanation. Sometimes in photography it is the story being told that is even more important than the quality of the image or the landscape that is captured. If you are someone who loves to take pictures my advise to you today is to never forget story telling in your images.

On the spiritual side I cannot help but see the illustration in this for life. When the trail of life gets confusing and there are many choices of direction that are before you take the time to listen to God’s voice of instruction. Where should we go to find his voice and direction? The best place to start is by seeking His counsel in His Word by studying the Bible and listen for His confirming voice by speaking with Him in prayer.

Just as with these trail signs, the choices being presented may not necessarily be wrong in themselves but they could be wrong if there is a certain destination that God wants you to get to. Where we go wrong in life is that we don’t first ask Him what our destination should be and then we don’t read the directions on how to get there. In backpacking these trail signs are useless if the map is not studied as well. In life looking for “signs” that we think are God’s direction or voice are equally useless if we have not studied the Word and prayed for Him to be our counsel and guide.

I hope that if you are at a crossroads in life today that this short blog has been helpful and encouraging to you. God Bless.
