High Places
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:1-2)
High Places
Mountain peaks and the beautiful terrain that accompanies these grand guardians of the horizon are always an inspiring source of material for landscape photography. There seems to be a draw to ascend the high places to take in the beauty of creation as a source of inspiration, refreshment, and quiet solitude. The irony that I have always found in my journeys into these places is that most of the time it takes a great physical effort to get to the most remote and beautiful places. Whether it has been backpacking for days and many miles or climbing a mountain peak the one constant is that these are never places that one ends up in inadvertently. They are also usually places that can only be reached on foot and this tends to contribute to the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment of being there. Once there the quiet, solitude, and beauty are refreshing to the soul and well worth the effort.
Life Application
Psalm 121:1-2 speaks of mountains and these two verses and the surrounding text help us recognize that our help in life comes from the Lord and that He is the Creator and the one who gives protection in our journey. We need to realize that in life we will have challenges and there are dangers that surround us every day. It is only by God’s guiding hand that we are kept safe as He watches over all of our days now and forevermore. Faith is always tested the most in battle as this is where we discover we are weak and He is our only source of strength. Take time today to thank God for His protection and provision in your life in the challenges large and small that He has been there at your right hand even when you have not realized it at the time. I have found over the years that some things are more visible in the rear view and by taking a look back we can gain encouragement to keep moving forward.
I hope these thoughts today have been an encouragement to you in your own walk and that you do enjoy taking these little photo journeys with me along the way! Praying for you wherever you are whether you are someone I know or may someday be able to meet. God Bless and don’t forget to take some photos along the way in your own journey.
