God’s Glory
“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pour out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy. Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat.” (Psalm 19:1-6, ESV)
There are times in photography that we wait on the created world to run its course to the perfect moment to capture the beauty that God has created for His glory. We plan and position ourselves and wait with anticipation knowing that when the moment is just right we will push the shutter and capture that single moment in time. This often requires patience in the waiting. This photo taken on Poston Butte near Florence Arizona was one of those shots that required patient waiting. My family and I had hiked to the top of the small butte and had some fun shooting a drone video (which you can see on the videos page) and when we were ready to go down I decided to wait for this shot. Composition was in place and my camera settings were chosen but the movement of the sun must be waited on in its own time and as the Psalmist said in this Psalm, “runs its course with joy… from the end of the heavens…. its circuit to the end of them” and as we certainly felt in Arizona, there is nothing hidden from its heat!
In life and in photography there are many times that we must wait patiently for God to move on a timeline that we have no control over. It does not do any good to become impatient with the sun and try to coax it to move faster or slower. All we can do is position ourselves to be in the light of God’s glory and stand in awe of His majesty and glory and the fact that the very heavens themselves declare His glory and proclaim his handiwork.
I hope that this image that I have shared today with you is a reminder of the infinite glory of God and that in my feeble attempt to capture a glimpse of this glory you have been moved to take a moment out of your day to simply praise Him for who He is. As always, leave a comment below if you like, and share this site with anyone else that you think will be blessed through my photos and daily thoughts.
