Clinging
“Be to me a rock of refuge, to which I may continually come; you have given the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.” (Psalm 71:3)
Who do I cling to when the storms come? Where is my hope in times of discouragement? The photo for this posting today of Deception Pass speaks to me today in how it demonstrates the incredible tenacity that the trees have to cling to the rock on the edge of the cliff. The water below runs cold and fast. Storms and seasons may come and go. Rain will pour and sun will bake. Wind will blow and morning fog will drift in and out but the trees remain steadfast.
As I look at the trees clinging to the rock I start to wonder who is holding who? Are the trees clinging to the rock or is the rock holding the trees? Ultimately I think that it is the rock holding the trees because the trees have chosen to trust in the rock to hold them. More than that, these trees have grown in that place from the tiniest of seedlings and over time have learned to trust that the rock would hold them no matter what storms come.
Today these thoughts and the picture I have chosen to share are specifically coming from a personal place of some discouragement. I am experiencing a bit of a valley of my own in terms of what I thought this site and blog might be able to be in terms of reaching and encouraging many people. What I am coming to learn after seeing the initial bump of traffic when it was new and now what appears to be no interest at all is that I simply need to take photos and write for an audience of one and that is God. If the taking and posting of photos and writing is only to be a devotional to the Lord without any other readers then I have to be o.k. with that being enough. When discouragement comes will I quit or cling? When my hopes of sharing this with many and seeing them be blessed by it seems to be a futile exercise will I quit or cling?
I choose faith. I choose trust. I choose hope. My only job is to trust in the one and only rock of salvation and let Him do the work. I am not holding onto Him, He is holding me.
Many blessings wherever your journey is taking you and as you travel… don’t forget to take some pictures along the way.
